Set of four studio pottery soup bowls by Michael Gaitskell (1948 - )
A set of four well-made studio pottery bowls, glazed in an attractive fawn and brown speckled glaze, with an unglazed underside. Each bowl has a Michael Gaitskell maker's mark impressed on the base. Simple but beautiful pieces made by a skilled craftsman, perfect for soup, porridge, chilli or your favourite 'picky bits'!
Michael and Rosemary Gaitskell founded The Mill Pottery at Mill Farm, Wootton Courtenay, Minehead, Somerset in 1974. They restored the buildings and installed a working waterwheel to power parts of the pottery and generate electricity. The Pottery ran between 1974 and 2009, producing beautifully thrown pieces and inspiring other potters. Michael was the first Chairman of the Westcountry Potters Association from 1993, a post he held for a number of years; he was invited to return in 2000, to the role of Honorary President.
