Small hand-decorated studio pottery stoneware bowl by Laurence McGowan

A small, hand-painted bowl made by Laurence McGowan, Collingbourne Kingston, Wiltshire (active 1979-2017). The bowl is tin glazed in mottled white-grey with a band of hand-painted blue flowers with green foliage on the outside rim, there is also one spray of flowers in the base of the bowl. The potter's personal mark is on the base, and probably made pre-1987 when he started adding the date with his mark.

  • Laurence McGowan trained with Pru Green at Alvingham Pottery (1973-75) and with Alan Caiger-Smith at Aldermaston Pottery (1976-1979). He is known to have developed hand decorating techniques in tin glazes on stoneware.
