Hand-decorated, cream stoneware, studio pottery vase
A very appealing, studio pottery vase with a spherical, cream stoneware body and flared neck. Hand-decorated with a number of different, overlapping glazes in, white, blue and ochre. Portions of the vase are also left unglazed, showing the contrasting matt finish of the fired clay. The vase is unmarked, but attributed to Peter Curtis, Millbrook Pottery, Dawlish, Devon, c.1980.
Peter is a self-taught potter, starting in the 1970s, and he was mentored for several years by Sid Tustin of Winchcombe Pottery. He was at Millbrook Pottery, in Dawlish Devon, before moving to the south-east, and now works from his garden studio in Beckenham, Kent, with the majority of his work using white stoneware clay.
Before becoming a potter, Peter was a principal dancer with Ballet Rambert.
