Quirky, large handmade pottery jug
A large earthenware jug, probably a school piece, made by Mary Ann Alice Puddy (1900-1984) of Easton, Bristol, c.1912. Decorated with speckled green and brown glazed exterior, and a glossy terracotta glazed interior with cream dots around the wide rim. The jug has a large pouring lip and handle, which is set on an angle. Pleasingly naive in style and shape, and somewhat reminiscent of a pitcher plant! Inscribed with 'MARY PUDDY' on the unglazed base.
