'A present from London' Victorian or Edwardian pink lustre teacup and saucer
A delightful souvenir teacup and saucer glazed in pink lustre with gilded decoration and motto, that reads 'A present from London'. It was made in the late-19th or early-20th century, so there is some wear to the gilding and a small crack in the base of the saucer, although this does not affect its appearance or use.
Souvenirs from your travels were very popular in the late-1800s and early-1900s, as journeys became quicker and easier by the new railway network, and all sorts of glass and ceramic objects were decorated with a motto showing the name of towns and cities across the country. As one might expect, these were not usually of the highest quality, but are highly decorative and are a fun reminder of a memorable destination!
