A large, vintage, circular platter with a chunky hollow rim. Hand-painted in shades of brown, rust and golden yellow forming a six-petal flower design and bands of lines and dots, over a buttermilk cream glaze. Made in Quimper, in the Brittany region of France, which has a very long tradition of making faience pottery, this piece dates to the 1970s.

  • Signed on the back with the Quimper Pottery mark and name, the form number 1260 and the design number 261. This piece is in excellent condition and has loops for attaching fixings to hang it on a wall.

    Faience pottery has been produced in the city of Quimper, France, since the seventeenth century, particularly in Locmaria, the historical faience quarter of the city. Pieces are all hand-painted in a variety of both traditional and modern designs. The city is also home to a museum of Quimper faience and there are collectors of Quimper faience pieces all over the world.
