Charming, Victorian carved sycamore, circular bread board
A Victorian or early-20th century, circular sycamore bread board, decorated with a hand-carved flower and the word 'Bread' in gothic script on the rim. These bread boards were made popular in the mid-19th century and continued in production into the 20th century and are now collected as items of vintage kitchenalia. There is a smooth groove between the rim and main cutting surface, which has clear signs of use. The underside is smooth, with a circular mark in the centre, and further cut marks from previous use. There is a small singed area under the rim, which does not affect the item's use and only adds to its character.
