Fábrica de Faianças das Caldas was established in June 1884 by Raphael and Feliciano Bordallo Pinheiro. Their factory and the sales warehouse were surrounded by a park with trees and springs, and included a ceramics school, it was all decorated with Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro’s own ceramic pieces.
Based on local traditions particularly Caldas’ pottery, their products included azulejos (blue tiles), panels, pots, table centerpieces, vase busts, fountain basins, pitchers, plates, perfume bottles, vases and large animals; and decorated mainly with flora and fauna.
The company is no longer family-run but still produces a wide range of their traditional and heritage designs.
