Original bentwood chair by Thonet, the German/Austrian manufacturer who developed the process bending wood to form elegant lightweight chairs.
This model probably dates from the 1910s-1920s and has a pressed Art Nouveau style design in the plywood of the back and evidence of a design on the seat. A partial paper label survives under the seat.
