Antique Bristol-green glass Christmas fairy light candle-holder
Late Victorian or early-20th century fairy-light for the Christmas tree - these coloured glass cups held a short slow-burning candle and were considered safer than tall candles which were first popular on Christmas Trees as the popularity of having a festive tree spread in the 1840s & 1850s.
This example is in pressed 'Bristol green', an emerald glass colour popularised by the glassmakers of Bristol, and would originally have had a piece of metal wire wound around the top and looped up to hang the fairy-light on a tree branch.
- Height approx. 9.5cm
- Diameter approx. 6cm
We do not recommend that you use lit candles to decorate Christmas trees. Lit candles should not be left unattended.
