1930s Bohemian 'Tango' glass vase in yellow and blue
A stunning piece of Czech / Bohemian 'Tango' glass by the Franz Welz glassworks in Klostergrab/Hrob in the modern Czech Republic, or a similar producer, in opaque, acid yellow glass with a deep blue rim. The vase has an exaggerated fluted rim and gently curved, cylindrical body in one of the most vivid colours, typical of kind of glass. Handmade from blown glass in around 1930, there is no maker's mark or label, but the piece is in lovely condition.
Tango glass was first created by Loetz in the 1930s, the technique was soon reproduced by companies including Kralik, Ruckl, and Welz. Tango glass is usually blown glass vases, bowls or other objects, in a bright colour such as orange, yellow, green or red, but sometimes pale blue or pink, and with applied glass decoration in another darker colour like black or deep blue, in the form of an outline to the rim, and/or applied handles, feet, and trailed spirals.
