George Wade & Son Ltd traced its origins to Burslem, Staffordshire in the 1860s, and is probably best known for the 'Whimsies' - small ceramic animal figures it produced from the 1950s. In 1947 the firm opened a new factory in Northern Ireland at Portadown and this mug was produced there.
